Atiku Supported Rotational Presidency, Says SGF

AkumeSecretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was among the political leaders who took part in the decision to adopt rotational presidency in Nigeria.

According to Akume, the principle of rotating the presidency between different regions of the country was collectively agreed upon by key political stakeholders as a way of promoting national unity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and regional groups.

His remarks come amid ongoing political debates over power rotation and zoning ahead of future elections. The issue has remained a major topic in Nigeria’s political landscape, with supporters arguing that it helps maintain balance and stability in the country’s governance structure.

Akume’s statement suggests that Atiku was not only aware of the arrangement but also participated in the discussions that led to its adoption, a claim that could further fuel conversations about the relevance and implementation of the rotational presidency principle in Nigeria’s democratic process.
