Reports indicate that powerful explosions were heard in Bandar Abbas, a major port city in southern Iran, on Tuesday night following alleged U.S. airstrikes targeting military sites and the city’s airport.
The reported strikes came shortly after Iran was accused of attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh concerns over the collapse of an already fragile ceasefire. According to reports, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation targeted air defence systems, drones and key port facilities.
Bandar Abbas is Iran’s largest southern port and a strategic naval base located along the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. The reported attacks are expected to further heighten tensions in the region.
