A suspected kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Usman, has been arrested following a fierce gun battle between security operatives and armed suspects in a forest at Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu disclosed that the operation followed the abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu on July 2, 2026, along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku.
According to him, the kidnappers had demanded a ₦100 million ransom for her release.Gwamnishu said a joint operation involving the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Hydra Tech Surveillance System led to Mrs. Chiedu’s rescue without any ransom being paid. Acting on intelligence, security operatives later stormed the gang’s hideout in a nearby forest, where a gunfight broke out.
Abubakar Usman was arrested during the operation, while several other suspects escaped.He further alleged that the suspect is linked to multiple kidnapping incidents in Igbodo, Umunede and other neighbouring communities. Gwamnishu commended the Delta State Government, the police, local vigilante groups and community leaders for their support, saying the fight against kidnapping in the state would continue.
