In Nigeria’s ever-evolving financial landscape, Ponzi schemes have become a nightmare for unsuspecting investors. The latest scandal? A staggering N13.8 billion fraud, allegedly orchestrated by Precious Williams, director of Glossolalia Nigeria Ltd and Pelegend Nigeria Ltd.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has now stepped in, dragging Williams to court over money laundering, conspiracy, and obtaining funds under false pretenses. But will justice be served, or is this just another high-profile case that fades into obscurity?
Between August 2019 and February 2020, Williams allegedly received N10 billion from Maxwell Chizi Odum (still at large) and MBA Trading and Capital Investment Ltd, knowing the funds were proceeds of fraud.
💰 Investors were promised 10% to 15% monthly returns—a classic Ponzi scheme tactic.
💰 Another N1 billion was allegedly laundered through a Polaris Bank account between December 2019 and November 2020.
💰 The money vanished, leaving thousands of Nigerians financially ruined.
The EFCC claims Williams played a key role in moving and concealing illicit funds, making her a central figure in one of Nigeria’s biggest financial scams.
Williams appeared before Justice S.I. Mark at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, facing 14 counts of fraud and money laundering.
🔴 She pleaded not guilty, denying all allegations.
🔴 EFCC demanded her remand in custody, arguing that bail was premature.
🔴 Her lawyer applied for bail, but the court ruled that a new bail application must be filed.
For now, Williams remains in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre, awaiting her next hearing on June 17, 2025.
Ponzi schemes have crippled thousands of Nigerians, yet convictions remain rare.
⚠️ Will Williams face real consequences, or will she walk free like many before her?
⚠️ Will the EFCC track down Maxwell Chizi Odum, the alleged mastermind?
⚠️ Can defrauded investors ever recover their money?
This case isn’t just about one person—it’s about Nigeria’s fight against financial fraud.
Ponzi schemes thrive on trust, desperation, and false promises.
For thousands of victims, this trial represents hope for justice. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that high-profile fraud cases often end in disappointment.
Will this be different?
