UNIZIK Suspends Professor for Three Months Over Alleged Misconduct Involving Female Student

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has suspended Professor Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye for three months and ordered him to receive half of his salary during the period over an alleged case of misconduct involving a female student.

The lecturer was accused of attempting to take advantage of the student, whom he had previously caught allegedly engaging in examination malpractice. The matter reportedly raised concerns about the professor’s conduct and his interaction with the student following the examination incident.

Following an investigation into the allegations, the university authorities imposed the three-month suspension as a disciplinary measure. The decision means Prof. Odinye will remain away from his official duties during the suspension and will receive only 50 per cent of his salary.

The development has sparked discussions around professional ethics, the responsibilities of lecturers and the need for students to be protected from any form of exploitation or abuse within academic institutions.
