TRAGEDY IN ABUJA: GUNMEN GUN DOWN NIGERIAN ARMY COLONEL IN SUSPECTED ABDUCTION ATTEMPT

Shock and grief have enveloped Nigeria’s security community following the reported killing of a serving Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, who was shot dead during a violent attack at his residence in the Kurudu area of Abuja.

The horrifying incident reportedly unfolded on Monday evening shortly after the senior military officer returned home from work. Sources said heavily armed assailants stormed the residence in what is believed to have been an attempt to abduct either the officer or members of his family.

In the ensuing chaos, Colonel Ude was fatally shot, while his wife, driver and security guard sustained gunshot injuries. The three victims were rushed to hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

The brazen attack has raised fresh concerns over security in the Federal Capital Territory, although the exact motive behind the assault has yet to be officially confirmed.

Security agencies and military authorities have launched investigations to track down those responsible and unravel the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.

Colonel Ude, said to be an indigene of Enugu State, served in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps and was regarded as an experienced intelligence officer. During his military career, he reportedly held key intelligence and counter-terrorism appointments, participated in operations against insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East, and served on international assignments in Chad and France, where he contributed to intelligence and security cooperation.

Colleagues remembered him as a courageous, disciplined and dedicated officer whose service left a lasting impact.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army had not released an official statement on the incident. Investigations remain ongoing, with further details expected to emerge.
