Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has reportedly passed away at the age of 57 following a brief illness, leaving fans and colleagues mourning the loss of one of the industry’s familiar faces.
His family announced his demise on his official Instagram page in the early hours of Friday, thanking supporters for their prayers and encouragement during the difficult period.
“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness.
“We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement read.
His de@th comes months after the actor dismissed rumours that he was suffering from a life-threatening condition. In June, a video showing him looking frail circulated online, sparking concerns among fans and colleagues.
Reacting to the speculation, Duru released a video on Instagram in which he described the footage as fabricated and malicious.
Born on July 27, 1969, in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State, Duru completed his early education there before moving to Nigeria to pursue higher education
The actor married his wife, Adokiye, in 2003, and they welcomed four children together. However, the family suffered a painful loss in August 2024 when one of their children, Ifeanyi, d+ed.
