Prominent political figures gathered in Ubima, Rivers State, on Saturday to bid farewell to Dame Mary Orduah Amaechi, the late mother of former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Rotimi Amaechi.

Among those who attended the funeral were ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, the party’s National Chairman Senator David Mark, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Also present were former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola and several other dignitaries.
The funeral service for the 89-year-old Dame Mary was held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ubima, where family members, friends, political associates and well-wishers gathered to honour her life and offer their condolences to the Amaechi family.

Atiku was accompanied by his wife, Titi Atiku Abubakar, while Rotimi Amaechi and his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, received the dignitaries who came to stand with the family during the solemn occasion.
The ADC said its leaders attended the service to pay their final respects to the late matriarch and support Amaechi and his family in their moment of grief.
Dame Mary Orduah Amaechi’s death was announced on July 16, 2026. Her burial also came shortly after former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso visited Amaechi’s residence in Port Harcourt to offer their condolences.

The gathering brought together political leaders from different backgrounds, setting aside the usual political contest to mourn with one of their own and honour the memory of a woman whose life was deeply connected to the Amaechi family.
