The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has announced a ₦50 million intervention for traders whose businesses and sources of livelihood were destroyed by the recent fire outbreak at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.
Alli announced the donation in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, saying the gesture was aimed at providing immediate relief to traders who lost their goods and businesses in the devastating fire.
Members of his campaign team, including the Director-General and Deputy Director-General, alongside other APC leaders, visited the affected market to meet with the victims and assure them that help was on the way.
According to Alli, the ₦50 million commitment was made to help traders begin the difficult process of rebuilding after the fire left several businesses in ruins.
“We had already made our position clear: ₦50 million has been committed to begin immediate relief for traders affected by the fire,” he said.
He added that the latest visit was meant to reassure the victims that the promise was not merely political talk, but a commitment that would be followed through.
“Our team returned to the ground to reinforce that message: this commitment is real, the support is coming, and no trader who lost their livelihood will be left to rebuild alone,” Alli stated.
Reflecting on the impact of the disaster, the APC candidate said Oranyan Market was more than just a commercial centre, stressing that countless families depended on the daily activities of traders for their survival.
“A market is more than a place of business. It is where families are fed, dreams are built, and hardworking people create a future for themselves and their loved ones,” he said.
He described the sight of businesses reduced to ashes as painful, particularly for traders who had invested years of hard work and savings into their livelihoods.
Alli, however, stressed that the ₦50 million donation is only the beginning of his planned support for the affected traders.
“The ₦50 million is just the beginning. The presence is the promise. This is Oyo AHEAD in motion,” he said.
The intervention comes as affected traders continue to count their losses and look for ways to get their businesses back on their feet following the devastating fire.
