FIFA Parts Ways With COO Kevin Lamour After Criticism of Infantino

FIFA has ended its working relationship with Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour, less than three weeks after he publicly criticised FIFA President Gianni Infantino over a controversial plan to create a company that would manage the commercial and ticketing rights of FIFA competitions.

FIFA confirmed on Monday that Lamour was no longer with the organisation, with BBC Sport reporting that his departure came shortly after his criticism of the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative.

A FIFA spokesperson said: “The working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as Chief Operating Officer has ended on 17 August 2026,”

The governing body also thanked Lamour for his two years of service.

Lamour had been openly critical of the FFE proposal, describing it as “the project of one person” and claiming that FIFA’s administration had been “deceived” about the initiative. He also took a swipe at Infantino’s leadership, saying:

“A president must bring people together, unite them, and inspire them. Today, we are experiencing the opposite.”

The proposed FFE company was eventually abandoned after plans to sell a 21 per cent stake to private investment firms faced strong resistance from several football authorities.

UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation opposed the proposal, while UEFA reportedly threatened to boycott the World Cup if the plan was pushed through. The fallout has now spilled into Infantino’s bid for a fourth term as FIFA president, with UEFA and Concacaf withdrawing their backing for his re-election.

The Scottish Football Association also withdrew its support for Infantino on Monday, joining the football associations of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Despite the growing opposition from Europe and parts of the football community, Infantino continues to enjoy the backing of the confederations representing Africa, South America and Oceania.
