A stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State ended in violence on Sunday, leaving several people injured, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
Witnesses gave conflicting accounts of the incident. While some alleged the violence began after Temple confronted another attendee over a previous disagreement, others claimed it stemmed from longstanding political differences between rival camps within the party. Allegations that the clash involved rival confraternities could not be independently verified.
Temple reportedly sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked with plastic chairs and broken bottles before being rushed to hospital for treatment.
Delta State Commissioner for Works, Reuben Izeze, denied involvement in the violence, insisting he was not near the scene when the clash erupted. He also alleged that he was attacked during the incident and accused Uvwie Local Government Chairman Tony Ofoni of assaulting him and taking some of his personal belongings.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident, while the various allegations made by those involved remained unverified.
