Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has denied reports that his office allocated ₦1 billion in the 2026 budget for musical instruments for churches, saying the actual provision is ₦780 million.
Kalu said the funds are for a youth re-orientation programme to be implemented through churches, including the purchase of evangelical instruments and public address systems to support campaigns against drug abuse, sexual offences and violent crime.
He explained that the first phase of the intervention will cover 130 churches across Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, with each church receiving support worth about ₦5 million to ₦6 million.
The deputy speaker added that the 2026 budget is yet to be implemented and that his office has initiated a corrigendum to correct a technical error in the procurement description.
