Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced plans to support an investment proposal by Utopia, an Egyptian pharmaceutical company, to establish a drug manufacturing plant in the state.
Speaking after receiving a delegation from the company, led by Dr. Kamel Mohamed and facilitated by Eze Apostle Gift Chibuzor Chinyere, Governor Otti described the proposed investment as a major step toward industrialisation and economic growth.
According to the governor, the project goes beyond the sale of pharmaceutical products, as it is expected to create jobs, facilitate technology transfer, boost local manufacturing, and increase the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Governor Otti assured the investors of his administration’s full support, including the provision of land for the project. He also encouraged the company to consider locating the facility in the Ukwa or Osisioma axis, citing the availability of reliable electricity from Geometric Power.
He expressed confidence that the partnership could position Abia as a leading hub for advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing in Nigeria and across West Africa, reaffirming his government’s commitment to ensuring the project’s successful implementation.
