Breaking: Gunmen Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander’s Corpse, Demand ₦50 Million Ransom

A funeral procession turned tragic after suspected kidnappers reportedly attacked a convoy conveying the remains of a late Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer to Benue State for burial.

According to reports, the convoy carrying the body of Deputy Corps Commander Augustine O. Ikwue, popularly known as “Etume Zero,” was ambushed along the Ososo–Ajaokuta road in Kogi State. Several mourners travelling with the deceased were allegedly abducted and forced into the bush.

Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu claimed the kidnappers initially took both the mourners and the corpse but later abandoned the body, which was eventually recovered around Ejule in Kogi State. The abducted mourners, however, are still being held captive.

The attackers are reportedly demanding ₦50 million for the release of the victims. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many describing it as a disturbing reflection of the country’s worsening security situation.

The late Deputy Corps Commander was scheduled to be laid to rest in AiOde, Upu community, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, before the funeral journey was violently interrupted. Security agencies have been urged to rescue the victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
