It was a Sunday morning like any other—until tragedy struck.

A horrific crash on the Zaria-Kano expressway has claimed the lives of 21 people, leaving families shattered and a nation once again grappling with the deadly consequences of reckless driving and poor road safety enforcement.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident occurred near Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsalle, and involved a Toyota Hiace passenger bus and a DAF trailer.

🔥 What Happened?

Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus driver violated traffic rules, driving against the flow of traffic and colliding head-on with the oncoming trailer. The impact was so severe that it triggered a fire outbreak, engulfing both vehicles in flames.

Out of the 24 people involved, 21 were confirmed dead19 men and 2 women—while 3 others sustained injuries.

The charred remains of the victims were taken to Nasarawa Hospital Mortuary in Kano, while the injured were rushed to Garun Malam General Hospital for treatment.

💔 A Familiar Tragedy

This isn’t just another accident—it’s a recurring nightmare on Nigerian highways.

“We keep losing lives to the same causes—speeding, route violations, reckless overtaking,” said FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The FRSC has once again urged motorists to obey traffic laws, avoid night travel, and report dangerous driving via the FRSC mobile app or toll-free number 122.

🧠 Final Thoughts—When Will It End?

These were not just statistics. They were fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters—people who left home that morning expecting to arrive safely.

Until Nigeria treats road safety as a national emergency, tragedies like this will continue to steal lives and futures.
