Tinubu deserves praise, not condemnation for reforms — Shettima

Shettima Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Says President Deserves Praise, Not Criticism.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has defended the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, saying the administration should be commended rather than criticised for the measures it has taken to stabilise and reposition Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking on Monday at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, Shettima said the reforms were beginning to produce encouraging results, pointing to improvements in foreign reserves and increased investor confidence despite global economic challenges.

According to the Vice President, the Tinubu administration inherited a struggling economy but has since recorded measurable progress.“Professor Soludo, you have done a lot of things for the federal government, especially in informing Nigerians where we were coming from — from reserves of $3 billion,” Shettima said.

“When we were experiencing capital plight and scarcity, now we are experiencing capital inflows.“Our foreign reserves have gone up to over $52 billion and counting in a turbulent world. Even the president deserves commendation and not condemnation.”

Shettima also acknowledged the role played by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in supporting the Federal Government’s reform agenda. He noted that Soludo stood by his convictions during the 2023 election season, even when his views were unpopular.

According to the Vice President, Soludo “defied the direction of the wind” by maintaining that the presidential election would not be won through “blackmail and intimidation” but through “grassroot support.”

He further assured both local and foreign investors that the Federal Government remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment by working closely with state governments to remove barriers that discourage investment and economic growth.

Shettima said the administration would continue implementing policies aimed at encouraging enterprise, boosting investor confidence and creating an economy capable of delivering sustainable growth and development.
