Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is currently facing serious criminal charges in the United Kingdom, including attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
The charges were confirmed by Snaresbrook Crown Court in London following inquiries by PUNCH Online. The court also confirmed that a reporting restriction has been placed on the case to protect the identity of the complainant.
According to the court, Poco Lee is scheduled to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, for plea and trial preparation. The hearing will allow the defendant to enter a plea and for the court to make further arrangements concerning the case.
In correspondence with PUNCH Online, the court’s Admin Team Leader, James Baker, confirmed that the charges against the dancer include attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
The court further explained that the reporting restriction is designed to protect the anonymity of the complainant under Section 1 of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 1992.
How did reports of his detention emerge?
Reports about Poco Lee’s detention first gained attention after Benjamin Kuti, founder of the Community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, said the dancer was being held in a UK prison while awaiting court proceedings.
Kuti, also known as Oluomo of Derby, told PUNCH Online that he was aware of the development because of his regular involvement in court proceedings and support for Nigerians facing legal issues in the UK.
He said Poco Lee was on remand and was expected to appear in court in September for a plea hearing. A plea hearing is where an accused person is ordinarily asked to indicate whether they are guilty or not guilty of the charges.The court later confirmed September 15 as the date for the hearing.
Why was Poco Lee in the UK?
Poco Lee had travelled to the United Kingdom in August for the Davido and Friends event at the Crystal Palace Bowl in London on August 14, 2026.
The dancer shared posts about the event on social media, while photographs and videos from the concert showed him alongside Nigerian music star Davido and other personalities.
Reports of his detention surfaced several days after the event, eventually leading to questions about what had happened and why he was being held.
For now, the case remains before the UK courts, and the September 15 hearing is expected to provide the next major development. The reporting restriction also means that details identifying the complainant cannot be published.As the matter is still before the court, Poco Lee remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until he is proven guilty.
