Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Clacton after securing victory in the by-election he triggered by stepping down from his seat.
Farage polled 22,239 votes, enough to return him to Parliament, with voter turnout recorded at 44.37%.
His victory, however, was greeted by an unusually quiet atmosphere at the Clacton Leisure Centre, where the official result was declared.
Unlike the typical scenes that follow a major election victory, there were no loud cheers or sustained applause from supporters inside the venue. Farage himself, along with most Reform UK members, did not attend the declaration.
The by-election had attracted significant attention after major political parties chose not to contest the race, creating an unusual political landscape in the Essex constituency.
Despite the muted declaration, the result gives Farage another parliamentary mandate and marks his return as Clacton’s MP after he stepped down and triggered the contest.
