The town of Gwoza, nestled in the rugged hills of Borno State, has once again become a battleground. But this time, the story is one of resilience, bravery, and a military that refused to back down.
On Friday, just after Jummat prayers, residents were jolted by the sound of explosions and heavy gunfire. Armed terrorists—believed to be Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters—launched a coordinated assault on the town, hoping to overrun it.
They didn’t expect what came next.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, already stationed in the area, responded with swift and tactical resistance.
🔴 Gunfire echoed through the Mandara Mountains, as soldiers pushed back wave after wave of insurgents.
🔴 Explosions lit up the skyline, but the troops held their ground.
🔴 Reinforcements were deployed, and the tide began to turn.
By nightfall, the attempted invasion had been repelled. The terrorists were forced to retreat, leaving behind weapons, ammunition, and shattered plans.
Gwoza isn’t just another town—it’s a symbol of resistance. Once declared a “caliphate” by Boko Haram in 2014, it has since become a strategic stronghold for both the military and the community.
Its location—bordering Cameroon’s Mandara Mountains and the infamous Sambisa Forest—makes it a prime target for insurgents. But it also makes every victory here deeply symbolic.
The people of Gwoza have seen more than their fair share of war. But on this day, they saw something else: a military that stood its ground, and a town that refused to fall.
This wasn’t just a battle—it was a message.
Terror may knock, but Gwoza will not open the door.
💬 Is this a turning point in the fight against insurgency in the Northeast? Let’s talk.
