Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged wealthy Nigerians, including top musicians such as Davido, Burna Boy and Asake, to support struggling citizens by investing in charitable causes and small businesses.
Speaking at an event, the First Lady shared the story of a university graduate who turned to selling akara in Abuja after failing to secure a job. She said the young man received financial support through a quiet intervention, without knowing she was behind it.
According to her, the assistance helped the entrepreneur expand his business, and he now employs 12 workers, proving that small acts of kindness can create lasting opportunities.
Using the story as an example, Tinubu urged successful entertainers and other affluent Nigerians to establish foundations that would provide support for the less privileged instead of focusing solely on luxury lifestyles.
She noted that while owning expensive cars such as Maybach and Rolls-Royce is not wrong, those who have been blessed financially should also remember to give back to society and help ease the burden on government.
The First Lady also praised the dignity of small businesses, saying traders and local entrepreneurs deserve support because they play an important role in the country’s economy.
