Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has signed the Ondo State Electric Power Sector (Amendment) Law, 2026, introducing a new regulatory framework aimed at improving electricity supply and expanding access to power across the state.
The new law is expected to provide a clearer structure for the development and regulation of the electricity sector in Ondo State, while creating room for greater investment and private sector participation.
The legislation is part of the state government’s broader efforts to address persistent electricity challenges and create an environment where more communities, businesses and industries can have access to reliable power.
With the new legal framework now in place, the Ondo State Government is expected to strengthen regulation within the sector and support initiatives that can increase electricity generation, distribution and access.
The law could also open the door for new investments in the state’s power sector, particularly as Nigeria continues to explore subnational solutions to its long-standing electricity supply challenges.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s assent therefore marks a significant step in Ondo State’s efforts to build a more structured and responsive electricity market capable of supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life of residents.
