OWERRI, IMO STATE — Governor Hope Uzodimma has announced a major breakthrough in Imo State’s healthcare sector following the successful completion of the state’s first robotics-assisted surgery at Imo Specialist Hospital, Umuguma.
Uzodimma described the development as a historic milestone and a significant step forward in his administration’s efforts to transform healthcare delivery across the state.
The governor disclosed the achievement in a statement shared on Friday, August 21, noting that the specialist hospital had undergone extensive upgrading, including the construction of a dedicated building for its Robotics Center.
According to him, the centre is being operated under a public-private partnership and has been equipped with advanced technology, modern facilities and improved medical infrastructure.
Uzodimma said the investment was aimed at ensuring that residents of Imo State have access to quality and advanced healthcare services without having to travel elsewhere for sophisticated medical procedures.
The governor expressed confidence that the development would also strengthen Imo’s position in the healthcare sector, with plans to attract patients from other parts of Nigeria and beyond.
He said the state’s long-term vision is to transform Imo Specialist Hospital into a credible destination for medical tourism and world-class healthcare.
The successful robotics-assisted procedure marks a significant development for Imo State as the government seeks to expand access to modern medical technology and improve healthcare outcomes for residents.
