A 55-year-old voter, Sharafa Lasisi, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to help resolve the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to recognise his face during the ongoing Osun governorship election.
Lasisi was reportedly trying to cast his vote at Polling Unit 006, Ward 04, Isale/Oke-Afo area of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, when he encountered the accreditation problem.
According to him, he made several attempts to have his face verified by the BVAS machine, but none was successful. Election officials reportedly blamed the difficulty on network problems and asked him to return later.
Taking their advice, Lasisi left the polling unit and returned after some time, only to face the same problem.
Visibly frustrated, the voter appealed to electoral officials to intervene, stressing that he only wanted to exercise his constitutional right to vote.
“My name is Sharafa Lasisi. I am from Alamisi Unit 6. I am 55 years old. I have been to where they are supposed to verify my face but they said the network isn’t letting the verification go through.”
He added: “They said I should go and eat at home. I went and came back and it still didn’t go through. I want them to help me so I will be able to cast my vote also.”
The incident occurred as voters continued to turn out at polling units across Osun State for the governorship election.
Lasisi urged INEC to urgently address the issue and ensure that the BVAS failure does not prevent him from participating in the election.
