The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has once again caught the attention of residents after riding an electric scooter through Okere, Warri, Delta State, while inspecting preparations for his fifth coronation anniversary.
The monarch carried out the inspection during his morning fitness routine, moving around the area on the scooter with members of his security team. Rather than using the traditional convoy often associated with royal movements, the Olu chose the more informal means of transportation as he personally assessed the progress of preparations for the upcoming celebration.
A video of the inspection was shared on the monarch’s official Facebook page on Saturday, with a caption explaining that the tour was part of his fitness regimen and an opportunity to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the preparations.
As he moved through the community, residents who spotted the monarch came out to hail and cheer him. His relaxed appearance and interaction with the people also generated a wave of reactions on social media, with many users praising what they described as his accessibility and down-to-earth approach to leadership.
One Facebook user, Iniobong Esen, commended the monarch’s style of leadership, while another user, Avwerosuo Amos Govina, described him as a king with “class and charisma.” Enujeke Prosper also praised him as “the Digital king with a difference.”
The Olu’s decision to ride a scooter during public engagements is not entirely new. He has attracted public attention on several occasions for choosing an electric scooter instead of a conventional royal motorcade.
In March 2025, he was seen riding a scooter through his ancestral home, Ode-Itsekiri, where residents warmly welcomed him. He similarly made headlines in December 2025 after riding an electric scooter while inspecting a newly completed road in Delta State.
With preparations for his fifth coronation anniversary underway, the monarch’s latest outing has once again given residents and social media users something to talk about, with many applauding his unusual but increasingly familiar style of connecting with the people.
