Popular Native Doctor Arrested After Three Children Were Found Dead Inside Her Anambra Home
A female native doctor has been arrested by the police after three children were found dead inside her residence in Umuoduba Village, Ideani Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victims, believed to be between six and 15 years old, were reportedly discovered unconscious alongside a fourth child who was still alive. The surviving child was rescued and rushed to the hospital, where doctors are currently battling to save the child’s life.
The rescue operation was carried out following the intervention of the President General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ogidi Police Division. The Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Stanley Nkwoka, also visited the scene after the tragic incident.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, August 5, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers responded immediately after receiving a distress report and evacuated all four children to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Sadly, medical personnel confirmed that three of the children had died, while the fourth child remains hospitalised in critical condition.
Ikenga disclosed that the female native doctor has been taken into police custody, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has assumed responsibility for the case.
According to him, detectives have commenced a comprehensive, intelligence-led and evidence-based investigation to determine exactly what happened and establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the children.He added that investigators are hoping to obtain a statement from the surviving child once doctors certify the child medically fit, as the account could provide crucial information to aid the investigation.
The bodies of the three deceased children have been deposited in a mortuary pending autopsy.
The police also expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and the Ideani community, urging residents to remain calm and avoid circulating rumours or unverified information while investigations continue.
The Anambra State Police Command assured the public that further details would be made available as the investigation progresses.
