The political drama in Rivers State took another dramatic twist on Tuesday as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared that Governor Siminalayi Fubara committed “no sin” by returning to the political family that brought him to power, insisting the governor had no choice but to retrace his steps.
Speaking after inspecting ongoing road projects across the Federal Capital Territory, Wike dismissed claims that Fubara was seeking forgiveness after their prolonged political feud. Instead, he described the governor’s decision as a practical correction of political miscalculation.
According to the minister, politics is not about permanent enemies but about recognising when a mistake has been made and making amends. He maintained that Fubara’s public return to his camp vindicated an earlier prediction that reconciliation was inevitable.
Throwing the doors open, Wike said his political family was ready to welcome the Rivers governor back without resentment, stressing that unity remained the only path forward for the state.
The FCT minister went further by linking the reconciliation to the 2027 general election, declaring that the reunited political structure would now work together to secure overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Away from politics, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on major infrastructure projects in Abuja, including the ISEX Road Corridor and the nearly completed Apo-Karshi Road. He disclosed that the contractor handling the ISEX project is targeting partial completion before December, provided the approved funds are released on schedule.
Reaffirming the Tinubu administration’s commitment to continuity, Wike said the government would continue completing abandoned projects inherited from previous administrations instead of pursuing personal political legacies. He argued that responsible leadership is measured by delivering projects that improve the lives of citizens, regardless of who initiated them.
