Royal Shock in Nasarawa: Gunmen Abduct Traditional Ruler in Daring Night Raid

In a chilling reminder of the growing insecurity plaguing parts of Nigeria, the peaceful night in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State was shattered by the echo of gunshots—and the heart-wrenching disappearance of a revered traditional ruler.

Late Wednesday evening, Sangarin Dari, Mr. Emmanuel Omanji, was forcefully taken from his palace by gunmen in a calculated and brazen attack. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers arrived under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically to create panic, before seizing the monarch and whisking him away to an unknown destination.

Locals describe the scene as terrifying. “It was like something out of a movie,” a resident recounted. “They didn’t just kidnap him—they made a statement. The whole community is shaken.”

Swift Response from Authorities

In response to the incident, the Nasarawa State Police Command has swung into action. Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel confirmed the abduction and assured the public that every effort is being made to rescue the monarch.

“The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has deployed a combined team of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, military personnel, and local vigilantes,” Nansel said. The operation, he added, is ongoing, with the community urged to share any useful information that could help bring the Sangarin home safely.

A Pattern of Fear?

This incident follows closely on the heels of another unsettling event in Ondo State, where three members of the Deeper Life Bible Church were abducted while returning from a Bible Study session in the Ogbese community of Akure North.

The victims were taken on Monday night, and church members have since mobilized prayer warriors, clinging to faith and hope in the face of uncertainty. Police have confirmed the abduction and stated that officers and members of the Amotekun Corps are currently searching the surrounding forests for the victims.

A church elder who spoke anonymously said, “We’re devastated, but we’re not helpless. We are praying and believing God for a miracle.”

Growing Concerns Over Security

These incidents add to the growing anxiety among citizens over the persistent wave of kidnappings and insecurity in various parts of the country. The questions remain: How safe are our homes? Our places of worship? Even our royal palaces?

As communities wait for answers and families hold on to hope, one thing is clear: security must become more than just a talking point—it must become a national priority.
