The mystery has been solved! If you’ve been wondering why Governor Siminalayi Fubara hasn’t had a grand red-carpet welcome into the All Progressives Congress (APC) since he dumped the PDP last December, the party’s leadership has finally broken its silence. In a move that caught many political analysts off guard, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, revealed that the delay isn’t about internal beef or “Oga” Nyesom Wike—it’s actually about the calendar!
The “North First” Strategy: Speaking on TVC Politics this past Sunday, Prof. Yilwatda explained that the party is currently prioritizing the North due to the fast-approaching Ramadan season.”We opted to clear the North first because Ramadan is coming and most of the people in the North are Muslims,” Yilwatda stated. “We have a lot of communities in the North that are sensitive to the issue of Ramadan… we want to finish with the northern governors who defected before moving to the South. “Basically, the APC is trying to beat the clock before the holy month of fasting begins, as large political rallies and “jamborees” are much harder to coordinate during that period.
Is Fubara Truly the “Leader” in Rivers? Despite the lack of a formal party, the National Chairman was very clear on one thing: Governor Fubara is the boss. Addressing rumors that the Governor lacks authority within the Rivers APC structure or that he’s being sidelined by Wike’s influence, Yilwatda challenged the media to show him a single petition against Fubara’s leadership.
The Verdict: The Chairman reaffirmed that Fubara remains the official leader of the party in Rivers State. The Membership Card: Recall that back in December 2025, Rivers APC Chairman Tony Okocha already presented Fubara with his membership card. This upcoming event is purely for the “pomp and pageantry.”What About Wike? When asked if the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was the one pulling the strings behind the scenes, the Chairman was quick to shut it down. He reminded everyone that Wike is still technically a member of the PDP, and as such, he shouldn’t be the focus of APC internal strategies.
The 2027 Chess Game: This “strategic delay” is a clear sign that the APC is playing a high-stakes game. By ensuring the North is settled before moving South, the party is trying to maintain a delicate balance of regional interests ahead of the 2027 general elections. What’s your take? Do you believe the Ramadan excuse, or is there a deeper political reason why Fubara hasn’t been officially “decorated” yet? 🍿Let’s talk in the comments! 👇🏾
