🔥 “I Will Not Postpone My Promises!” — Bola Ahmed Tinubu Vows To Establish State Police Amid Rising Insecurity. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again assured Nigerians that his administration will move forward with the establishment of state police, declaring firmly that he will not delay or abandon his campaign promises. Speaking during an interfaith Ramadan Iftar with governors and top government officials in Abuja, the President emphasised that tackling insecurity remains a top priority of his government. According to him, decentralising policing by empowering states is no longer optional — it is necessary.
Why State Police? For years, Nigeria has battled: Kidnappings, Banditry, Terrorism, Farmer–herder clashes, and Armed robbery. Many security experts argue that the current centralised policing system is overstretched and cannot effectively respond to local security threats across the 36 states. Tinubu believes state-controlled police structures will:Improve intelligence gathering at the grassroots, Enable faster response to local crimes, Reduce pressure on federal security agencies, Strengthen community-based policing
“Campaign Promises Will Be Fulfilled” The President made it clear: “What I promise will not be postponed.”This statement appears to be a direct response to growing public concern about whether key reforms — including state police — would be delayed due to political and constitutional hurdles. However, establishing state police will require constitutional amendments, meaning the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly must approve the changes.
The Big Question Nigerians Are Asking: Will this reform truly solve insecurity — or will it create new political power struggles at the state level? Critics worry about: Potential abuse by governors, Politicisation of state police, and funding challenges. Supporters argue that the current system has failed and reform is long overdue. One thing is certain: Nigerians are watching closely. With insecurity still affecting daily life, citizens want more than promises — they want visible action. If implemented properly, state police could mark one of the most significant security reforms in Nigeria’s democratic history. What do you think — is state police the solution, or a risky gamble? 👇🏽
