Delta Community Takes Spiritual Action Against Kidnappers: Can Ancestral Curses End Crime?

Turning to Tradition in the Face of Rising Insecurity

In a dramatic and rare event, the people of Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, have invoked ancestral curses on kidnappers and criminals terrorizing their community.

With crime rates soaring and residents living in fear, the traditional ruler, HRM Obi Nduka, alongside chiefs, elders, and spiritual leaders, led a powerful Ine Ubi ceremony, a spiritual cleansing ritual aimed at banishing evil forces from the land.

“Enough Is Enough!”—The Monarch Speaks

Standing at the front of his palace, Obi Nduka made a strong declaration, saying the community could no longer tolerate constant abductions and killings.

“We have never been used to this kind of criminal rampage where residents are now being abducted almost regularly,” he said.

While the government and security agencies continue efforts to tackle crime, the monarch believes that spiritual intervention is now necessary.

A Powerful Ritual: The Nine Villages Unite

In a procession never seen before, the nine villages of Issele-Uku gathered, carrying palm sticks, Bibles, and chaplets, chanting curses against:

🔴 Kidnappers

🔴 Armed robbers

🔴 Poisonous charm planters

🔴 Those aiding criminals in any way

Government Response & Next Steps

Authorities acknowledge that insecurity is a national challenge, but Obi Nduka is calling for stronger action, saying: “Government has not failed us, but they must step up their game. Security and welfare remain their primary purpose, as enshrined in the constitution.”

Can This Spiritual Approach Work?

Will this age-old cleansing ritual succeed in deterring criminals, or will further security reinforcements be needed?

For now, Issele-Uku is sending a clear message—evil will no longer thrive here.
