It was supposed to be another ordinary morning on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway—until disaster struck.
A speeding cement truck with faulty brakes turned a bustling roadway into a scene of devastation, plowing into four cars near the Sango-Ota tollgate. Within seconds, what started as a routine commute became a tragic pile-up, claiming three lives and leaving six others severely injured.
🚛 The truck, which had no registration number, was moving fast towards the tollgate when its brakes failed.
💥 With no way to stop, it crashed into four vehicles, sending debris flying and leaving motorists in a state of panic.
🚨 Emergency responders rushed to the scene, pulling out survivors and moving them to Ifo General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The loss of life has once again put a spotlight on reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and the urgent need for stronger road safety regulations.
TRACE South-West Area Commander, Adekunle Ajibade, didn’t mince words—urging drivers to check their brakes, avoid excessive speed, and prioritize roadworthiness.
“Many accidents like this can be avoided if motorists conduct proper vehicle inspections. Speeding without caution leads to unnecessary deaths,” Ajibade warned.
Despite repeated warnings, incidents like this keep occurring—leaving grieving families and shattered lives in their wake.
Meanwhile, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has intensified its nationwide campaign against fuel scooping, warning Nigerians never to rush to accident scenes to collect spilled fuel, a reckless practice that has led to several explosions and mass casualties in the past.
🔥 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is now pushing for better enforcement of road safety laws, including mandatory vehicle inspections and stricter penalties for reckless driving.
This latest fatal accident is yet another painful lesson—but will authorities act fast enough to prevent future disasters?
🔴 Will stricter brake inspections become mandatory for commercial vehicles?
🔴 Can drivers be held accountable for reckless speeding?
🔴 Will NOA’s “Say No to Fuel Scooping” campaign finally save lives?
Road tragedies continue to claim innocent lives, but the question remains—will Nigeria take action before another heartbreaking headline?
