Gunmen have reportedly abducted the principal of Government Secondary School, Opada-Olowa, a NECO supervisor and four students after attacking the school during an ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examination in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to residents, the attackers stormed the community at about 2 p.m., firing gunshots to scare people before forcing their way into the school while candidates were writing their exams. The invasion threw the entire area into panic, with examination papers left scattered across classrooms after the attackers fled.
The victims have been identified as the school principal, Nyada Daniel, NECO supervisor Solomon Audu, and four students. Residents said the number of abductees could have been much higher if more candidates had been present at the time of the attack.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers have already contacted some of the victims’ families and are demanding ransom for their release.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command said security agencies immediately launched a joint rescue operation. Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat disclosed that one of the abducted students has already been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to free the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
