As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 presidential election, speculation is running wild. Social media is buzzing with campaign posters suggesting that Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, is preparing to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
But Bello isn’t having it.
In a strongly worded statement, his media office dismissed the rumors as false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief makers determined to drag him into a political storm.
“Our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition,” the statement declared. Instead, he fully supports Tinubu’s second-term bid.
According to Bello’s Director of Media, the viral posters aren’t new—they were actually from a 2022 rally, repackaged to create a false narrative.
“Nigerians should disregard this senseless post by confused individuals who are desperate to create chaos where there is none,” the statement continued.
But why now? Why has Bello become the subject of presidential speculation, just as opposition leaders are strategizing to present a strong challenger?
With Tinubu receiving overwhelming support from APC governors and the National Assembly, opposition heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are reportedly holding talks to unify their base and produce a competitive candidate for 2027.
Will their alliance work? Can they find a single contender strong enough to take on Tinubu?
While Bello distances himself from the race, the political temperature in Nigeria continues to rise. Power moves are being made, alliances are shifting, and the battle for 2027 has already begun.
For now, Bello’s message is clear—he’s not in the race, but the real question remains: who will be?
