2027 Politics: Atiku Slams APC, Says Tinubu’s Endorsement Signals Panic & Desperation

A Political Firestorm Erupts

The race for Nigeria’s 2027 presidency just took a dramatic twist, as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar delivered a scathing critique of the APC’s endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku, the opposition powerhouse, wasted no time in calling out APC leaders, suggesting that their early declaration of Tinubu as Nigeria’s sole candidate is a move borne out of fear and political uncertainty rather than confidence.

“When you’ve prepared diligently for an exam, you can sleep soundly the night before, waking up assured of success,” said Paul Ibe, Atiku’s media aide.

“Nigerians are the ultimate judges. Their endorsements will determine the outcome, not the political manoeuvrings of the ruling party.”

APC’s Early Endorsement—Strategy or Desperation?

At the APC National Summit in Abuja, the party’s Governors Forum and National Assembly leadership rallied behind Tinubu, boldly naming him as their 2027 presidential flagbearer.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio even declared that Tinubu is Nigeria’s sole choice for the presidency, a move many saw as premature and politically calculated.

But critics, including Atiku and top PDP figures, argue that endorsements from party insiders don’t translate to votes from struggling Nigerians.

The Opposition’s Next Move—A United Front Against APC?

Atiku isn’t alone in challenging APC’s dominance. Reports indicate that opposition leaders—including Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi—are exploring alliances to form a powerful coalition against Tinubu’s re-election bid.

With Nigeria grappling with economic hardship and insecurity, opposition forces believe they can rally public frustration into a formidable challenge for APC’s hold on power.

Tinubu’s Battle for Credibility

The PDP Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, summed it up best:

“Endorsements don’t guarantee victory. Former President Goodluck Jonathan had 21 governors backing him in 2014, yet he lost the election.”

So the real question is—will Nigerians buy into APC’s early endorsements or demand a fresh alternative for leadership?

What’s Next?

Will APC’s early endorsements backfire?

Can the opposition unite behind a single candidate?

Will economic struggles shape the 2027 election?

The political temperature is rising, and the battle for Nigeria’s future has already begun.
